Pick once, then listen. If the attack begins sharp, tune from the stable sustain instead of the first transient.

Approach from below.

When possible, flatten the string slightly and tune upward. It helps the string seat predictably at the nut and post.

Check the musical register.

After open strings, play the chords and positions you are about to use. Temperature and fretting pressure matter.
